Toxins in your hair
A Brazilian Blowout is a hair treatment that turns frizzy hair into straight smooth hair. This sounds appealing to many people, but in reality they are dangerous. A report from a hairstylist in Portland claims that she experiences eye irritation, nose bleeds and shortness of breaths after work with one. After filing a complaint, it was discovered that Brazilian Blowout products contain formaldehyde, a toxic carcinogen, even though they claim to be formaldehyde free. In order to be considered formaldehyde free, it must contain less that 0.2%. The beauty product in question contained 6.3-10.6%. Formaldehyde has been linked to various cancers.
Beauty products should not be toxic for their users because there is a large amount of people who will use them directly onto their body. But honestly speaking the most surprising thing to me about this was that the hair treatment can cost hundreds of dollars. To me that just sounds way more outrageous than dangerous chemicals being in a product. It's kind of dumb that the FDA has these statements about these requirements for products, but never seem to enforce them.
